Caldwell County Sheriff Don Weedman is shedding light on the new requirements and inspection costs for street-legal special purpose vehicles, following the first reading of an ordinance passed by county magistrates on Tuesday.
Sheriff Weedman explained that owners of street-legal special-purpose vehicles will need to complete a specific inspection process to certify their vehicles as roadworthy, which differs from the inspections done for regular automobiles or tractor-trailers. He said there is a $25 fee for the inspection if the vehicle is brought to the sheriff’s office on a trailer, and shared that additional costs may also apply.

click to download audioHe also mentioned that the sheriff’s office has not had a significant rush on these inspections, which he added, once certified, will be valid in all counties across Kentucky.
Sheriff Weedman said they plan to post all inspection information soon on the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office website and social media pages, along with copies of the inspection points in his office for the public.
