Caldwell County Teen Honored for Saving Dog’s Life

A local teen received special recognition at Tuesday’s Caldwell County Fiscal Court meeting for helping save both a dog’s life and leg.

Caldwell County Animal Shelter Director Kevin Lane recounted the rescue of a Great Pyrenees found in distress under a bridge on East Main Street on July 11.

Lane also updated magistrates on the cat spay and neuter vouchers, reporting he issued 197 vouchers worth nearly $10,000 in just two and a half days. Judge Executive Kota Young highlighted that this is a strong example of the effectiveness of public-private partnerships with the local animal shelter.

click to download audioLane shared that during a recent event in Fredonia, he expected to issue around 15 cat spay and neuter vouchers but ended up writing 55, calling it a great opportunity for the community. The vouchers were available for $20 each.

Lane noted that more spay/neuter vouchers for felines will be available in October, once Dr. Luna has finished surgeries on the current 197 cats.
