Black Patch Parade Grand Marshal Roy Gene Rogers

We continue today to introduce another individual who has been chosen to serve as one of the Grand Marshals for the Black Patch Festival.

Our spotlight today is Grand Marshal Roy Gene Rogers. Anyone in our local or surrounding communities would not have to hear his full name to recognize and know who we are talking about. When you hear anyone say “Roy Gene” your mind and thoughts go directly to him being, Roy Gene Rogers. Rogers is and has been a well know figure not only locally but statewide for his involvement in local civic activities and across the state for his political knowledge, coaching in various basketball arenas and supporting youth and community activities. One constant part of his life for the past 51 years is he has been a mainstay in the Princeton Optimist Club serving in most every position in the organization. Rogers shared about his childhood growing up and education.

click to download audioDuring his 33 years in education Rogers became known as a teacher that cared about and loved his students. He was also known to teach very difficult history and government courses but fair to his students and when they went on to college they realized he had prepared them for the studying and work it took to succeed in higher education. He also was a listening ear and helping hand that students could turn to in times of need. Rogers explained how he got in involved in the local Optimist Club.

click to download audioRogers is also very involved in other community projects and serves in multiple public programs serving different ages.
