Gregory Layne Watson, age 77, went home on September 4, 2025, at Princeton Nursing & Rehab Center after a long illness.
Greg was born June 4, 1948, to the late John Laceon and Louise Sigler Watson. He grew up in the Farmersville community of Caldwell County.
He was a member of Donaldson Missionary Baptist Church, a graduate of Fredonia High School in 1966, a lifetime member of the Genealogy Society, a former Princeton City Policeman, and a heavy equipment operator. Greg was an original member of the Caldwell County Ambulance Department and, as health permitted, an active member of the County Cemetery Restoration Group. He compiled two books on Caldwell County cemeteries and authored the Descendants of Jacob Sigler, 1936-1817, which had 17,529 persons indexed.
Several local families’ histories were compiled, including the Watson, Sigler, Nichols, Towery, and Hardricks. He also served as a leader and counselor of the local NA groups.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald Laceon Watson and Gerard Layne Watson of Caldwell County; two granddaughters, Emma Lora Watson of Lexington and Marjorie Grace Watson of Caldwell County; one brother, Frederick Wayne (Makia) Watson and one sister, Toni (Larry) Watson both of Caldwell County; four nephews, Jonathan Errol Watson, Frederick Wayne (Jennifer) Watson, Jr., Christopher Jon Stewart, Caleb Z. Watson; two nieces, Jennifer (Bill) Hale and Taylor D. Watson; two great nephews, Trevor Wayne Watson and Tanner Lee Watson; two great nieces, Tara Lynn Watson and Lillian Louise Hale.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 7th, from 12:00 PM until service time at 2:30 PM at Morgan’s Funeral Home, with Bro. Mark Faughn officiating and burial to follow in Morse Cemetery in Farmersville.
