Louisville Gas and Electric and Kentucky Utilities has been named a “Top Utility” for economic development by Site Selection magazine in 2024.

According to company officials, this marks the company’s 12th time receiving a top ranking since 2012.

Site Selection magazine recognizes top utilities based on project investments and job creation in their service areas, using both total and per-capita figures from the previous year.

In a written statement, LG&E and KU President John Crockett said the utility’s competitive rates, reliability, and customer focus give them an advantage in attracting and retaining businesses. He added that it’s an honor to be recognized for supporting Kentucky’s economic growth and community prosperity.

In 2024, officials noted that LG&E and KU supported 76 projects bringing nearly $2.8 billion in investment and creating 3,113 jobs. Their service areas accounted for 45% of statewide investment announcements, with 39% of investments and 34% of jobs. The projects spanned industries like advanced manufacturing, EV batteries, logistics, healthcare, metals, food and beverage, agri-tech, and bourbon distilling.

Officials added that the company increased local engagement with its Opportunity Kentucky e-newsletter and targeted digital ads. They said the 2024 “Bettering Businesses” campaign ran across digital, streaming, social media, and print, earning over 27 million impressions and 41,000 site visits—far surpassing industry benchmarks.

Site Selection magazine is a leading trade publication covering economic development, workforce trends, and industry news, aimed at site selection consultants and economic developers in the U.S. and internationally.

LG&E and KU, part of PPL Corporation, are regulated utilities serving over 1.3 million customers. LG&E provides gas and electricity in Louisville and 16 nearby counties, while KU serves customers across 77 counties in Kentucky and five in Virginia.
