An Eddyville man faces multiple drug-related indictments after two separate incidents in Hopkins County.

The Hopkins County Grand Jury indicted Jacob Lear on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, first-degree persistent felony offender, and first-degree trafficking of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

The charges stem from a June traffic stop on Interstate 69 in Madisonville, where police reported Lear changed lanes without signaling and was following another vehicle too closely.

According to Madisonville Police, officers were familiar with Lear from prior encounters and knew he was a convicted felon. During the stop, officers said they noticed a handgun magazine on the passenger-side floorboard and were given consent to search the vehicle, where they found a diaper bag on the passenger seat with a black zippered pouch inside containing suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, and a small container with apparent meth residue.

Police also noted that Lear was carrying mostly $20 bills and said the meth weighed about 20 grams.

Lear was arrested and booked into the Hopkins County Jail.

In a second indictment, Lear is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine) from an incident in August that was investigated by the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office.
