Superintendent Leonard Whalen is addressing an ongoing investigation into a volunteer boys basketball coach at Dawson Springs Independent School, following reports of inappropriate comments and a possible threat.

In a written statement on Tuesday, Whalen said, “Dawson Springs Schools are aware of and are actively addressing allegations of inappropriate comments related to a potential threat made by a volunteer boys basketball coach.” He said the coach has been placed on suspension of his volunteer status pending the results of a full investigation.

Whalen said the safety and well-being of students and athletes remain the district’s top priority. He added that the school district is taking these allegations seriously and is fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities.

Whalen noted that, because the investigation is ongoing, no additional details can be shared at this time. He said the district will provide an update once the investigation is complete.

Whalen thanked the community for their patience and understanding as they work through this matter.
