Woman Killed in I-69 Collision Near Dawson Springs

An Arkansas woman was killed when her vehicle collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 69 in Hopkins County on Wednesday night.

State police report they received a call for assistance from the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office around 11:30 p.m. regarding a collision near Dawson Springs on I-69 northbound at the 92 marker, involving a semi-truck and trailer and another vehicle.

According to police, a preliminary investigation found that 51-year-old Jose Tovar-Silva of Sanluis Potosí, Mexico, was driving a semi-truck and trailer southbound when he reported a northbound vehicle crossed the median into his lane, causing a collision.

State police said the driver of the vehicle,  64-year-old Julia Jones of Blue Mountain, Arkansas, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner. Police said that the Yell County Sheriff’s Office in Arkansas helped notify her family.

The semi-truck driver was not injured in the crash, and state police report that no criminal charges have been filed at this time.

Kentucky State Police Post 2 is continuing to investigate the crash.
