Local Magistrate Responds to High Gas Price Concerns in Caldwell County

Concerns about high gas prices at local pumps sparked a discussion during Tuesday’s Caldwell County Fiscal Court meeting.

District 3 Magistrate Brent Stallins explained that, after receiving several calls from residents about gas prices, he asked Judge Executive Kota Young if he could  to contact fuel distributors on behalf of the Fiscal Court.

Stallins said that he contacted a leading fuel distributor in the county to talk about the current gas prices.

Stallins added that, with only three distributors in the county, he believes it will take the arrival of a cut-rate distributor before the gas prices are lowered.

District 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone pointed out that gas prices in Fredonia are lower per gallon than in Princeton.

District 4 Magistrate Jeff Simms stated he believes the usual markup on gas is about one dollar per gallon above the wholesale price.

Judge Young noted that increased competition may be the solution, with magistrates adding that the potential new distributor is not affiliated with the county’s current fuel providers.
