Cecil Hobby, 74, of Princeton

Cecil Earl Hobby, 74, of Princeton, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025, at the Anna Mae Owen Residential Hospice House in Murray, Kentucky.

He was born on November 27, 1950, in Princeton to his late parents, Hershel and Magdalene “Marie” Cunningham Hobby. Cecil lived a life filled with adventure. He had a passion for travel and shared countless memorable trips with his family, visiting places like Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Washington, D.C., and enjoying many cruises. Of all his journeys, his favorite destination was the Smoky Mountains, where he enjoyed many visits. His love of travel extended beyond vacations; he and his wife, Sherry, moved often throughout their marriage, making homes in Houston, Memphis, Nashville, southern Illinois, Indiana, and Dallas before retiring in their hometown of Princeton, Kentucky.

He attended Trinity Methodist Church in Princeton and was formerly a member of Hillside Community Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where he and Sherry joyfully served in the coffee ministry. He earned his associate’s degree in Electronics from ITT Institute but built a long career in commercial and residential pest control, serving as both a manager and technician.

In his free time, Cecil enjoyed drag racing, cheering on UK basketball, target practice, and camping and fishing trips with his daughters when they were young. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a clerk typist with the Adjutant General’s Corps.

Cecil is survived by his wife of fifty years, Sherry Hogan Hobby; two daughters, Ashley English (George) of Eastport, ME, Whitney Hobby (Adam) of Princeton; one sister, Marilyn Buntin (Jimmy) of Dawson Springs; three brothers, Charles Hobby of Winfield, MO, Kenneth Hobby of Eddyville, Joseph Hobby (Kathy) of Delaware, OH; several nieces and nephews; and long-time friends, Lester Brandon and Wesley Jones.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Betty Jo Lax, Susan Myers, and one brother, Ricky Hobby.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Pastor John Duff officiating. Burial will follow in Cross Roads Cemetery in Caldwell County.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Morgan’s Funeral Home in Princeton.
