John Moore Rowthorn, 98, of Lyon County, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025, at Livingston Hospital in Salem.
He was born on May 25, 1927, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, to his late parents, Percy George and Anne Main Moore Rowthorn. John served as a Radarman Third Class in the Navy and studied as an electrician, earning skills that would guide his career and life’s work. After his military service, he enjoyed a long and dedicated career as a lineman with U.S. Steel in McDonald, Ohio, before retiring in 1981.
Following retirement, John moved to his lake house on Barkley Lake in Lyon County, Kentucky, where he became a member of St. Matthew by the Lake Lutheran Church in Draffenville. A talented craftsman/handyman, John loved carpentry work, once building a cabin cruiser from a kit and later constructing his own home in Ohio. In his earlier years, he especially enjoyed fishing and camping with his family.
John is survived by his wife of 66 wonderful years, Eileen Margaret Hupp Rowthorn; children, Donna L.(Randolf) Turek of The Villages, Florida, Dale J. Rowthorn of New Harmony, Indiana, Dean J. (Jodie) Rowthorn of Austintown, Ohio, and Drew J. Rowthorn of Eddyville, Kentucky; his siblings, Percy Rowthorn of Florida, Annie Shaner of Ohio, and Margie Shufflebottom of New York.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Hurdley, and brother, Lawrence Rowthorn.
Memorial services will be scheduled at a later date.
