Caldwell County High School celebrated a milestone Wednesday morning as educators, students, and community members gathered for the official launch of the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the Fine Arts Building.
JAG Specialist Stephanie Chambliss welcomed attendees, calling the event an exciting new chapter for the school and community. She explained that the JAG program helps students succeed both in high school and after graduation.
She said that the success of the JAG program relies heavily on the support and involvement of the community.
After her remarks, JAG officer Harper Lewis led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by President Dariah Harris, who guided students in reciting the JAG Creed.
JAG students Kadence Samples and Adrianna Springfield shared their testimonials about the program, as well as those of their peers.
Regional Jobs for America’s Graduates Specialist Stephanie Rickman shared that when she first joined the program, there were around 40 JAG programs across the state, with only two this side of Bowling Green. Now, she said, the initiative has grown to 132 programs across 72 counties, with about 7,500 students throughout Kentucky.
She said that the JAG program currently has a 99.6 percent graduation rate, surpassing the national standard required to be recognized as a six-of-six winner.
Keynote speaker, 8th District State Representative Walker Thomas, praised the JAG program for making a real difference in the lives of Caldwell County High School students, noting that around 60 students are currently participating.
He said the future of the JAG program in Caldwell County is “promising,” with a vision to expand, reach more students, and build partnerships with local businesses and organizations for increased internships, mentorships, and real-world learning opportunities.
During closing remarks, CCHS Principal Daniel Kukahiko thanked the community members who joined in celebrating the achievements of JAG students.
After the ceremony, JAG students, school staff, and community members participated in the ribbon cutting, followed by a reception in the library.
