Sue Smiley, a devoted educator and lifelong learner, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Rivers Bend Retirement Community. Born with a curious spirit and a warm heart, Sue found joy in traveling, reading, and exploring the stories of the past. A proud history buff, she loved sharing her knowledge with others and embraced every opportunity to learn something new.
Sue was a Charter member of Midway Baptist Church, where she formed many lasting friendships. She graduated from Caldwell County High School in 1957 before earning her bachelor’s degree in Education from Western Kentucky University and her master’s degree from Murray State University. Sue was especially proud of her career as a teacher, serving for many years in the Breckenridge County, Kentucky, school system, where she taught business and touched countless lives through her dedication and kindness. Sue had a great love for Caldwell County, especially her family farm.
Sue is survived by her cousins, Carolyn (Denny) Crisp of Princeton, Betty Jones of Hopkinsville, Nancy Mitchell of Clarksville, TN, Jennifer (Adam) French of Princeton, Michael (Lilianna) Crisp of Coral Springs, FL; she had a special place in her heart for Madison, Makenzie and Macy French.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Charlene Eatherly Smiley; sister, Mary Ann Smiley.
Funeral services will be private.
