Pat George Honored With DAR Women in American History Award

At Monday night’s meeting, a dedicated member of the Princeton City Council, known for her lasting contributions to the community, was recognized by the General John Caldwell Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Carolyn Traum shared that the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution encourages each chapter to honor a woman from their local community for the Women of American History Award.

click to download audioShe went on to say that the local Chapter is committed to making sure that such contributions do not go unrecognized, and presented the award to Pat George, who was met with a standing ovation from those in attendance.

George was visibly moved when Traum named her the award recipient.

Traum then shared background information about George’s time as a member of the senior Class of 1963, highlighting her role as one of the courageous students who helped integrate Caldwell County High School. She also noted that George has served on the Princeton City Council for 17 years, in addition to her involvement with various other boards.

According to Traum, George was not only a member of the Community Disciples—dedicated to tutoring and providing enriching programs for children of all ages—but also served as chairman of the Planning Committee for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration for the past eleven years.

click to download audioAfter the presentation, the City Council approved the reappointments of Gale Cherry and Kayla Thomas to the Princeton Board of Adjustments, with terms set to expire on October 1, 2029. The council also reappointed Cherry and Carol Woodall to the Princeton Planning Commission, with their terms expiring on the same date.
