Residents and supporters from across Dawson Springs are preparing to gather for a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., commemorating four years since the deadly tornado outbreak in Western Kentucky.

City officials say that as the community observes four years since that devastating night on December 10, 2021, they are uniting to honor the resilience, strength, and unwavering spirit of Dawson Springs and neighboring communities. They add that the vigil is a time for reflection, remembrance, and standing together—just as they have done every day since.

Everyone is invited to attend the vigil and join in uplifting the community with hope, healing, and unity.

Candles will be provided for those attending the vigil.

City officials remind attendees that the city park is closed, so parking will be available around School Street and Pine Street.

The EF-4 tornado that struck on December 10, 2021, with estimated peak winds of 190 miles per hour, tragically took the lives of over a dozen residents in Dawson Springs, including a two-month-old girl, and destroyed nearly 75% of the community’s homes.

The tornado also claimed the lives of four people in Caldwell County and destroyed approximately 300 homes.

The National Weather Service reported that the tornado stayed on the ground for more than 165 miles, ranking it among the longest continuous tracks in U.S. history.
