Lisa Hughes, 63, of Fredonia

Lisa Hughes of Fredonia passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.

Lisa was born on March 16, 1962, in Santa Ana, California, to the late James Lewis France and Barbara Ellen Umstead. She previously worked for Bremner for 20 years, where she was honored as the first woman “Boss of the Year” in 2009. Her work ethic was exceptional, and she once said, “A boss is only as good as those who work for her and perform their jobs above and beyond.” She later retired from U.S. Smokeless Tobacco as a quality sanitation manager.

Lisa highly valued education and instilled this love of learning in her daughters and grandchildren. Exceptionally intelligent, she graduated cum laude from her college class. She was of the Baptist faith and loved traveling, antiques, and spending time with her grandchildren. She cherished the thrill of Black Friday shopping and always upheld the cherished family tradition of buying Hallmark ornaments for each family member. Lisa will also be deeply missed by her dog, Toby, and her beloved chickens.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis Wayne Hughes of Fredonia; three daughters, Tiffany & Shandy Ellis-Brown of Clarksville, TN, Shawna Ogle & Will Fletcher of Princeton, KY, and Dani & Chris Gray of Clarksville, TN; three stepsons, Sebastian Hughes of Clay, KY, Coty & Jasper Hughes of Louisville, KY, and Austin & May Hughes of Christinia, TN; one brother, Gary France of Princeton, KY; and ten grandchildren: Rylie Ellis-Brown, Ansley Ellis-Brown, Briawna Scimeca, Fionah Scimeca, Maxwell Scimeca, Kaden Ogle, Declan Gray, Dawson Gray, Grayson Hughes, and Henry Hughes.

She will be laid to rest with her beloved dog, Mia.

Private services were held.
