Jewell Coomer, 76, of Grand Rivers

Jewell Coomer, 76, of Grand Rivers, Ky. passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Ray and Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center at Mercy Health in Paducah, Kentucky.

She was born in Kuttawa, Kentucky, on March 19, 1949, to her late parents, Newt and Minnie Green Springs. Jewell was known for her wonderful cooking, a passion that carried her from restaurant kitchens to a long career with Ingram Barge Company, where she cooked aboard tow boats. She also had a deep love for animals and generously cared for many cats and dogs throughout her life.

Jewell is survived by her two daughters, Tammie (Martin) Smothers of Paducah, Angela Coomer of Grand Rivers; son, Johnny Coomer of Grand Rivers; four grandchildren, Kristie Smothers, Brett Smothers, Austin Hermosillo, Dylan Hermosillo; five great – grandchildren, A.J. Hermosillo, Emery Hermosillo, Cade Smothers, Brayden Smothers, Bryce Smothers.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her five sisters, Mary Ellestine Walker, Helen Timmons, Phyllis Jarrell, Joanna Duncan, and Rose Watson; three brothers, Willie Springs, Leonard Springs, and Keith Springs; and her great-grandson, Theo Hermosillo.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville, Ky.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m.on Friday, January 16, 2026, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery
