A convicted sex offender was recently arrested in Lyon County on charges of using fake identities on social media, a violation of state law.
According to Lyon County Sheriff Brent White, 33-year-old Robert Gaines, II, was taken into custody around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 11th, on a criminal complaint warrant issued by the Lyon County District Court. He said the arrest followed an investigation that began in November 2025, after the sheriff’s office received complaints about a registered sex offender using false names on social media accounts, in violation of Kentucky law (KRS 17.544).
Sheriff White said that Gaines, a resident of Sunnyside Loop near Kuttawa, is a convicted sex offender from Livingston County and is registered for life on Kentucky’s Sex Offender Registry. In this case, he said Gaines was charged with two counts of Sex Offender Registrant Social Media Identity Violation.
He also reported that Gaines is facing a similar charge, along with a marijuana possession charge, in Marshall County. He stated that the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case in September 2025, and it is currently pending in court.
Sheriff White said Gaines was lodged in the Crittenden County Detention Center and later posted a cash bond before being released.
