Caldwell County Braces for Winter Storm

With a winter storm approaching this weekend, local agencies met Thursday to coordinate plans and put safety measures in place for Caldwell County.

Caldwell County Emergency Management Director Joey McCaslin tells WPKY’s News Edge that a special EOC meeting was held Thursday afternoon, bringing together around 27 representatives from various city and county government agencies, state departments, and local utilities.

He says that they plan to have extra ambulances available over the weekend.

click to download audioHe says they have also talked to the school system, and Butler Gym may also be used as a warming shelter if additional space is needed, with Blue Springs Church on KY 139 as another possible location.

click to download audioAlthough they’re tested weekly, McCaslin says they retested all the backup generators on Thursday and found one at the vocational school that was cutting off after a few seconds. He says someone is coming on Friday to see if they can find the problem.
