A recent report to the Caldwell County Board of Education showcased the success of the school district’s nutrition programs.
At the recent school board meeting, Food Service Director Aaron McClung announced incredible results from the Annual School Nutrition Report for the Summer Feeding Program, which he stated has been a tremendous success, serving more than 160,000 meals in nearly a dozen weeks.
click to download audioHe mentioned that, thanks to a $30,000 grant and the installation of a walk-in freezer outside the elementary school, the district has saved thousands of dollars.
click to download audioDue to the success of the Summer Feeding Program, McClung also shared that he is scheduled to speak at the Kentucky Department of Education in February.
click to download audioIn addition, McClung announced they are currently awaiting results after applying for a Farm to School Grant, a project he collaborated on with Tammy Sanders and Magen Woods from the high school’s Agriculture Department. He explained that the motivation behind applying for the grant is the district’s goal to increase the use of local foods, and added that nothing is more local than growing your own vegetables in the school building.
