Randal Wayne Merrick, 78, of Princeton, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at his home.
He was born on January 27, 1947, in Caldwell County, Kentucky, to his late parents, William “Tom” and Mary Hazel P’Pool Merrick. Randal was the owner-operator of Merrick Concrete Construction and a true master of his craft. For decades, he poured concrete across western Kentucky, earning a reputation for quality work and an unmatched work ethic. Many joked that his work was also his hobby, as he was always ready for the next job. Through his work and his deep roots in the community, Randal seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew him.
While Randal was known to shoot you straight, he was equally known for his generosity and his heart of gold. He was raised in Blue Spring Baptist Church and later became a member of First Baptist Church of Princeton.
Randal is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley “Sue” Cooper Merrick; two daughters, Jennifer Leah Merrick of Louisville, Sherry (Randy) Jordan of Princeton; two sons, Darryl Wayne (Rui) Merrick of California, Jason Ryan (Lori) Merrick of Princeton; three sisters, Lillian Nell Hale of Hopkinsville, Katherine Keefer of Richmond, VA, Linda Curvin of Chattanooga, TN; one brother, Clifford Don Merrick of Symsonia; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Suzanne Merrick; four sisters, Mildred Mitchell, Aline M. Wood, Pearl Dixon, and Ellouise Mitchell; four brothers, Thomas, James, Richard, and Archie Merrick.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Morgan’s Funeral Home with Bro. Roger Mitchell and Bro. Ronnie Sivells officiating. Burial will follow in Merrick Cemetery in Caldwell County.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Morgan’s Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Randal’s memory to the Tom Merrick Cemetery Fund, 415 Hurricane Road, Cadiz, KY 42211.
