Caldwell County School District Reports Growth in Breakfast Program

The Caldwell County Board of Education received an update on the district’s progress in food service and student wellness initiatives during its January meeting.

Food Service Director Aaron McClung said their main program is the National School Lunch Program, with participation in the 2024-25 school year about the same as the previous year.

click to download audioMcClung noted that the district received $1.35 million in federal reimbursements for its two main food service programs — the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program. He added that this amount is about $150,000 higher than the previous year, thanks to increased participation in the breakfast program.

click to download audioThey have also launched a new After School Snack Program this year, providing snacks for approximately 20 to 35 kids, four days a week.

click to download audioMcClung shared that, back in August, they met with Wellness Program representatives from each school and collaborated with Baptist Health. As part of a grant, Baptist Health will provide funding for activity equipment used in physical education in all the schools. He added that they will continue to update this program every year.
