The Kentucky County Judge-Executive Association is investing back into communities across the state and recently presented a check to Lyon County.

Through this new program, the Association will donate $1,000 to each of Kentucky’s 120 counties over the next four years, selecting 30 counties at random each November during their General Membership meeting.

Judge-Executive Jaime Green shared in a social media post that Lyon County was chosen during this past November’s selection, and Nonnie’s Place was selected as the recipient of the $1,000 donation. According to Judge Green, the county received the check at the Association’s conference earlier this month, and it was presented to Judy Driggers of Nonnie’s Place last Thursday, February 13.

Nonnie’s Place, located in Eddyville, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting women who are raising children under difficult circumstances. The organization operates two central locations in the area: a supportive residential home and a resale shop.

Founded by Judy Driggers and named in honor of her mother, Lois “Nonnie” Smith, Nonnie’s Place opened its doors in September of 2017. Since then, it has provided a safe haven and transitional shelter for single mothers and families in Lyon County and the surrounding Western Kentucky region.

Judge Green expressed her gratitude for the work Driggers does through Nonnie’s Place and the difference she makes in the community. She added that this support “will go a long way in helping continue that important work.”
