The Caldwell County High School wrestling team has its first JV state champion.
Trey Herron claimed the gold medal at 106 pounds at the state tourney in Louisville on Saturday.
Herron went 4-0 on the day while claiming the championship. That includes a tight 2-1 decision over Mikah Mattingly of Louisville Male in the finals.
Herron started the day by pinning Alder Brown of Woodford County in just 55 seconds.
The CCHS sophomore then decisioned Quinton Finch of Oldham County 5-1.
In the semifinals, Herron defeated Ohio County’s Josh Athey 7-4.
Herron won the regional championship at 106 in December to earn his spot at the state tournament.
