Fiscal Court Agrees to Share Costs with City on Commercial Development Study

The Caldwell County Fiscal Court has agreed to a joint undertaking with the City of Princeton to share the cost for a site design study for commercial development on U.S. 62 West.

At Tuesday’s meeting, Judge-Executive Kota Young began by sharing progress on the new industrial building under construction at Industrial Site No. 4 in the Industrial Park. He also mentioned a grant application submitted for the project at Industrial Site No. 5.

Judge Young also discussed his recent presentation to the City Council, where members agreed to share the matching funds for that $450,000 grant for Industrial Site No. 5. He said the City will also split costs for the predevelopment design phase of Site No. 6, a 16-acre commercial site along U.S. 62 West.

District 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone asked why the funding request was being brought to Fiscal Court instead of being covered by the local Industrial Development Authority, which has limited funds but does receive support from the TVA.

In other new business, magistrates voted to dissolve the joint Pennyrile Westpark Industrial Development Authority, which Judge Young said was formed two to three decades ago. He explained that a study found land near the prison farm in Lyon County unsuitable for future development, leading to a joint decision to dissolve the Authority.
