The community is mourning the loss of Clarence Allen “C.A.” Woodall, Jr., formerly of Princeton, who passed away at his home in The Villages, Florida, on February 16 at the age of 99.
Woodall was a native of Kuttawa and was a 1994 graduate of Butler High School, where he was a member of the high school band.
According to family members, Woodall enrolled at Murray Teachers College to study music, but was drafted into the United States Army in 1945, where he played in Army bands and marched in victory parades in New York City and Washington, D.C.
After his honorable discharge, he married Mary Ann (Walker) Woodall. They had six children and were married for 57 years until her passing in 2004.
Woodall attended Murray State University, earning a Bachelor of Music degree, and began his career as Band Director at Hopkinsville High School.
He earned a master’s degree in music from Northwestern University in 1953 and became Band Director at Clarksville High School in Tennessee.
In 1955, his family says, Woodall returned to Princeton and joined his father at Woodall Insurance and Real Estate. He earned his Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter designation in 1971 and was active in state insurance associations.
He was active in the community as a member and former President and Lt. Governor of the Kiwanis Club, a charter member and past President of the Princeton Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Pennyrile Board of Realtors and the Planning and Zoning Commission. Woodall was also an avid golfer and past President of the Princeton Golf Club.
He maintained his love of music by founding The Music Makers dance band and performing with the Paducah Jazz Ensemble, Bill French Band, Paducah Symphony Orchestra, and numerous other groups. He also played alongside well-known acts such as The Lettermen, Bobby Vinton, Bob Newhart, the Jimmy Dorsey Band, Ray Stevens, Todd Hill Combo, and the Jim Fern Band.
While living in Princeton, Woodall was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where he served on the Parish Council and as music director. He retired from Woodall Insurance and Real Estate after more than 50 years in the business.
In 2006, he married Deanna (Carr) Woodall of Paris, Tennessee. They moved to The Villages, Florida, in 2008, where he joined St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, enjoyed frequent golfing, and played in several local bands.
He is survived by three sons, three daughters, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
