Anthony Young, 83, of Kuttawa

Anthony Young of Kuttawa, KY, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his children on Friday, February 27, 2026. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville.

Anthony was born on February 3, 1943, to Tony and Eltis Young. He went to grade school and high school in Lyon County, graduated from Murray State University in 1965, and later received his pHD from the University of Kentucky, Lexington. He was a professor at the University of Wisconsin and retired from Southern Illinois University, where he served as the head of the Animal Science department. Anthony’s passion was research, but his true love was cattle farming. He returned to his home in Kuttawa and spent his retirement farming and raising cattle. He raised registered Polled Herefords until he was 82 and time stopped an unstoppable man.

Anthony married Beverly Bowling in 1967. Together, they had three children. His legacy also includes six grandchildren. He loved his grandchildren endlessly and was so proud of each of them. Nothing gave him greater pleasure than talking to them and hearing the latest updates about their school, work, and personal lives. He provided guidance, love, wisdom, and his strong opinions whenever he had the opportunity.

Anthony found love and companionship later in life with his special lady friend, Dottie Jaggers of Eddyville, KY. They shared a love of church, bible study, and good conversation.

Anthony loved cattle, farming, science, research, and UK basketball; he rarely missed watching his team play. He was a lifelong member of the Kuttawa Independent church.

He is survived by one brother, Ed Young of Princeton, KY, three children, Antoinette (John) Batson, Herrin, Illinois, Clay (Monica) Young of Huntington, West Virginia, and Adam (Colleen) Young of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. Six grandchildren, Joshua Batson, Louisville, KY, Lauren Young, Atlanta, GA, Holden Young, Bozeman, MT, Danny Young, Kuttawa, KY, Maggie Young and Asher Young, Huntington, WV. Nephew Lee Young, Republic, MO and “special kids”, niece and nephew Tom and Karin McDaniel of Hickory, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Andrew Young.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Jed Ramey officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home in Eddyville.
