A house fire on Dripping Springs Road claimed the life of a Caldwell County man Tuesday morning.

Caldwell County Fire Chief Brent Francis says that about a dozen firefighters responded to a structure fire at 599 Dripping Springs Road around 7:00 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found the back two rooms of the six-room wooden house engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, he says one person was found deceased inside the home.

Caldwell County Coroner Dewayne Trafford was called to the scene and confirmed the death of 59-year-old Robert Stewart.

According to Chief Francis, two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated on the scene by AmeriPro EMS. He says the Deputy State Fire Marshal and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office also assisted at the scene, while the Fredonia Volunteer Fire Department covered the city.

Firefighters cleared the scene after roughly two and a half hours, while Chief Francis remained on the scene for about five hours. Chief Francis says the home was heavily damaged by the fire, which remains under investigation.
