Law enforcement agencies across the region are asking for prayers for a Crittenden County Sheriff’s deputy who was shot in the line of duty Thursday night.
According to The Crittenden Press, a deputy and another individual were shot around 5:00 p.m. during a confrontation at a home on Kentucky Highway 365 between Mattoon and Sturgis, about three miles from U.S. 60, after law enforcement responded to a welfare check.
The deputy was airlifted to a hospital, while the condition of the other individual has not been released; however, The Crittenden Press reports that the coroner was called to the scene.
A woman inside the residence was transported by ambulance to a hospital, although she was reportedly not injured by the gunfire.
Multiple law enforcement agencies from surrounding counties, including Caldwell and Lyon, responded to the scene to assist the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department.
Kentucky State Police were also on the scene and are in charge of the investigation.
