Princeton City Council Finalizes Mayor, Council Pay Hike Starting 2027

The Princeton City Council has officially passed an ordinance that will raise the salaries for the next mayor and six council members, effective January 1, 2027.

At a special meeting Wednesday afternoon, City Attorney Todd Wetzel presented the second reading of an ordinance that would raise the mayor’s annual base salary to more than $51,000 and increase City Council members’ annual compensation to just over $3,930.

click to download audioThe ordinance was approved unanimously by a vote of 5-0, with Councilwoman Sheila Gates not present at the meeting.

 

This marks the first salary increase for the mayor’s position since it became full-time on January 1, 2023, when the salary was established at $42,500. City Clerk Julie Poole also noted that this is the first pay increase for city council members in decades, with their compensation previously set at $300 a month.
