The Caldwell County Grand Jury has handed down seven indictments following its April session, with cases ranging from drug possession to burglary and escape.
A true bill was returned on Jaibre Cozart of Marion on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance – meth, illegal possession of a legend drug, multiple violations, along with a misdemeanor.
The charges are from a traffic incident in February. According to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy reported that Cozart’s vehicle nearly struck his patrol car head-on. While that deputy could not immediately stop her due to a transport, another unit intercepted Cozart a short time later on KY 293 North.
During that stop, the deputy reportedly found Cozart in possession of meth and a legend drug.
In a separate indictment, Cozart is also charged with second-degree escape. According to the Princeton Police Department, this charge is from a March incident where she walked away from a court-ordered drug rehabilitation center and failed to return to jail.
Nicole Mayfield of Princeton was indicted of first-degree possession of methamphetamine from an encounter with Princeton Police last December at the local Probation and Parole Office.
According to police, Mayfield was being served with a warrant when officers discovered a pipe containing a suspected controlled substance. Following the arrest, the pipe was sent to the Kentucky State Police forensic lab, where testing confirmed the residue was methamphetamine.
A true bill was returned on Mandy Meeks of Princeton on charges of theft of identity and the illegal receipt of a credit card. The charges stem from an investigation by the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office into incidents reportedly occurring between August 22nd and September 19th of last year.
The indictment alleges Meeks violated state law regarding the fraudulent acquisition of a credit card.
Kevin Orange of Princeton was indicted for first-degree burglary. The charge stems from a February 6th incident on Jo Jones Road, where Caldwell County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of a man unlawfully entering a home.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Orange admitted to entering the residence and taking a firearm that did not belong to him.
Chelsea Jo Puckett of Fredonia was indicted on charges of violating a Kentucky EPO/DVO, second-degree fleeing or evading police, and resisting arrest.
The charges are from a February 8th incident when Caldwell County deputies responded to a home on Cecil Sigler Road. According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies encountered Puckett in the driveway and ordered her to stay. Instead, deputies said Puckett got into her vehicle and fled the scene.
Following a brief pursuit, deputies stopped Puckett on KY 70 near Thompson Road, where she was taken into custody.
A true bill was returned on Jayson Williams of Madisonville on a second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument charge. The indictment alleges the incident occurred on January 22.
