Mayor Recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Honors Sanctuary, Inc

At Monday’s meeting, Princeton Mayor Brock Thomas recognized April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month by presenting a proclamation to Sanctuary, Inc., honoring the vital support they provide to victims.

Heather Lancaster, Executive Director of the Hopkinsville-based nonprofit, explained that Caldwell is one of nine counties they serve, and expressed her gratitude to Mayor Thomas and Judge-Executive Kota Young for their collaboration with the organization.

click to download audioShe noted that the organization serves a wide area and is fortunate to have a dedicated support staff of approximately 30 people to carry out this important work.

click to download audioLancaster shared that over the past four years, the organization has been “behind the scenes” preparing for a new location and the reconstruction of Sanctuary’s emergency shelter.

click to download audioShe explained that they will seek one-time support from all the counties they serve, so when construction begins, they can call it a nine-county regional domestic violence shelter and sexual resource center.

click to download audioIn response to Mayor Thomas’s question about capacity, Lancaster explained that Sanctuary’s current facility can accommodate around 80 individuals, and the new location will maintain that same capacity.
