Princeton Woman Accused of Trying to Smuggle Drugs into Jail

arrested-8

A Princeton woman was arrested after police say they uncovered a plan to use a work-release inmate as a courier to smuggle drugs into the Caldwell County Jail.

Assistant Princeton Police Chief Shane Allison says 39-year-old Dusti Petersen was taken into custody around 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday on an arrest warrant following an investigation into a drop-off involving approximately 1.3 grams of meth.

Police say Petersen hid the drugs at a specific location, intending for a work-release inmate to pick them up and deliver them to 41-year-old Jowan Riley, who is already incarcerated at the jail.

Officers served an additional warrant to Riley at the jail on Wednesday for his alleged role in the plan.

Both Petersen and Riley are charged with first-degree complicity in trafficking a controlled substance and first-degree attempt to promote contraband.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
