Caldwell Fiscal Court Approves Road Aid Funding and Jailer’s Salary

The Caldwell County Fiscal Court has approved road aid funding and the jailer’s salary for the upcoming fiscal year.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Judge-Executive Kota Young presented the County Road Aid Cooperative Agreement, describing the expected 2027 funding of over $983,000 as “disappointing.”

click to download audioHe reminded the public that these funds are placed in a special account set aside by the Fiscal Court specifically for road-related expenses.

click to download audioYoung added that the county plans to spend around $2 million on paving projects in the upcoming fiscal year, and emphasized that the county remains in strong financial shape.

As part of some annual housekeeping matters, the Fiscal Court set the jailer’s duties and compensation for Fiscal Year 2027 at $97,659. District 2 Magistrate Jeff Boone noted that this amount includes a cost-of-living increase based on the Genuine Progress Indicator.

During magistrates’ comments, District 1 Magistrate Elbert Bennett presented the Fiscal Court with a check for about $4,330 from the KACo Unemployment Compensation Self-Insurance Fund.

click to download audioThe Fiscal Court also received updates from Fire Chief Brent Francis, Animal Control Officer John Lundstrom, AmeriPro EMS Director Dana Woolsey, Sheriff Don Weedman, and County Clerk Jennifer Hale, who reviewed voting options and important dates for the upcoming May 19 Primary Election.
