Betty J. Smith, age 84, of Cedar Lake, IN passed away peacefully surrounded by family on May 10, 2026. She is survived by her daughters, Melissa (Dan) Smith, and Cindy Smith; sons, Jason (Debbie) Smith, David (Tammy) Smith, and Steven (Tammy) Smith; granddaughters, Kaitlyn (Sartori) Moore and Kristina (Kevin) Moore; great-granddaughters, Mila, Violet, and another one on the way; and her cat, Cali. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William; her parents, Ava and Frank Zuray; brothers, Frankie and Dick Zuray; and many other friends and family waiting to welcome her home.
Betty Jean Smith (nee Zuray) was born in Piedmont, Missouri. She met her husband in Kentucky and moved to Indiana to build her life with him. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Friends may greet the family on Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm. at Burdan Funeral Home, 12901 Wicker Ave., Cedar Lake, IN 46303. A funeral service will take place on Thursday evening at 6:30 at Burdan Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Dixon Cemetery in Grand Rivers, KY.
