A new school year is bringing a full calendar for Caldwell County 4-H, with students getting ready for competitions, camps, and outdoor learning opportunities.
Caldwell County 4-H Agent Rhonda Jewell says students are in the process of choosing and preparing the country hams they will take to the Kentucky State Fair.

click to download audioSeveral other Caldwell County 4-H events are coming up in September. Forestry Field Day at Land Between the Lakes is set for September 11th, with registration due September 9th.
click to download audioAerospace Camp will be held September 18th at the Madisonville airport.
click to download audioRegistration is also open for Camp Jekyll, which will be held April 4th-7th during spring break. Jewell says the coastal camp gives students access to environmental education they cannot easily experience in western Kentucky.
click to download audioCamp Jekyll registration runs through September 13th, with a $125 deposit. Jewell says the office is applying for a grant that could reduce the overall cost for families.
Caldwell County 4-H shooting sports members are also preparing for the state shoot, September 12th and 13th, with students competing in archery and other events.
The Extension Office will also host its Extension Extravaganza on September 26th, giving families a chance to learn more about 4-H, family and consumer sciences, agriculture, and other local extension programs.
