The CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/breast-cancer) lists Breast cancer as the second most common cancer among women in the United States. (Some kinds of skin cancer are the most common.) Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. (Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death.) For non-Hispanic Black women and Hispanic women, breast cancer is the leading cause of cancer death.

The CDC is working to prevent and control breast cancer in several ways. One of those includes working with public, non-profit, and private partners to talk about breast cancer in women younger than 45 years of age with:
- The Bring Your Brave campaign, which provides information about breast cancer to women younger than age 45 and health care providers by sharing real stories about young women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.
- The Advisory Committee on Breast Cancer in Young Women, which provides guidance regarding development, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based activities aimed at prevention, early detection, and survivorship.
- The Young Breast Cancer Survivors Program, which provides support services and resources for young breast cancer survivors and metastatic breast cancer patients.
