Caldwell County Schools Launch Summer Feeding Program

The Summer Feeding Program in Caldwell County launched on Tuesday, providing nutritious meals to hundreds of local children and marking a new chapter with Caldwell County Public Schools now overseeing the initiative.

This year, the school district assumed responsibility for the Summer Feeding Program, a role previously filled in years past by The King’s Kitchen of Caldwell County through community donations.

Food Service Director Aaron McClung explained that Caldwell County is among 116 Kentucky counties eligible for the USDA program, due to the high number of children in need throughout the state.

According to McClung, more than 500 children received meals on Tuesday, the first day of distribution.

He notes that registration for the program will remain open all summer, but his concern is being able to meet the high demand for meals.

McClung says the Summer Food Program relies on many people, and he asks families for patience in case they run out of food.
