A day of friendly competition and community spirit filled the fairways Friday as the Princeton Rotary Club teed up another successful annual golf scramble, and introduced a new feature this year.
Club Vice-President Janie Tomek shared with WPKY’s News Edge that the annual golf tournament raises funds for their Build-A-Bed program.
click to download audioClub President-elect Shane Fortner explained that he introduced the Build-a-Bed program to the Princeton Rotary Club while he was a member of the Madisonville Rotary Club.

This year, the club introduced a new feature—a golf ball drop—after Fortner saw its success at other Rotary Clubs. He explained that Club members sold tickets for $20 per ball.
click to download audioTwo hundred numbered golf balls were sold and dropped from a Princeton Electric Plant Board bucket truck onto Hole 18. When none landed in the hole, Club Secretary Pam Brunelle announced the winner whose ball landed closest.

Tomek also acknowledged this year’s $1,000 sponsors.
click to download audioTwenty-two teams signed up for the golf tournament and were provided sack lunches featuring potato chips, cookies, and a choice of grilled hamburger or bratwurst.
According to Burnelle, the Princeton Electric Plant Board team took first place, with First Southern Bank finishing second.
The tournament took place at the Princeton Golf Club on South Jefferson Street.
