Elementary Students Visit Farm Operation (w/PHOTOS)

As part of the annual FFA Farm to Plate Program the third grade students in the local school system were able to visit a county farm and see animals, equipment and the operation of a real live farm up close and learn how it provides food for their family.

Caldwell County FFA Advisor Magen Woods shared that various individuals and groups came together to provide this information for the students in this event that teaches the young students about the farming industry and how their food gets from the farm to their homes.

She noted why the FFA has sponsored this event for close to 50 years, they want to educate the students who may have never been to a farm to understand how farmers grow the products and how it gets to their family.

Woods added it is important for the students to see food products in the grocery and then to explain to them what is in their food and the process it goes through to get from the farm to the plate.

FFA member Ben Jones shared about the activities for the day.

Megan Massey has been teaching third grade for seven years and has seen how it benefits the students to know how they get their food products. She appreciates the FFA members for their work in preparing the day for the students.

Third grade student Lily Farless told about what she had seen and learned.

Third grader Lucas Bowley shared about his day.

The FFA Chapter wants to thank everyone who helped with the event and a special thank you to Roberts Farms for allowing them to come to their farm during a very busy time of the year.
