Shirley Compton Greene, 88, of Eddyville, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, at her home.
She was born on September 25, 1937, in Somerton, Arizona, to her late parents, Charles and Ovella Tays Compton. Shirley was a woman of deep faith and was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Kuttawa for 72 years, where her servant heart and quiet dedication touched many lives. Shirley worked for more than 20 years at the Herald Ledger before retiring, and she was an active member of the Eddyville Women’s Club, proudly serving as a past president.
Shirley found great joy in sewing and was especially known for the beautiful quilts she lovingly made. She was an amazing cook, always happiest when feeding those she loved. Above all, Shirley cherished her family and treasured time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Jacki Kinnis of Eddyville; three sons, Greg (Debbie) Greene of Eddyville, Chuck (Page) Greene of Kuttawa, Shannon (Lana) Greene of Eddyville; nine grandchildren, Heather Clymer, Cordie Greene, Courtney LeMasters, Adam Dycus, Casey Kinnis, Morgan Capps, Sidney Greene, Trey Greene, Charleigh Greene; ten great-grandchildren, Abby Dycus, Bentley Jack Greene, Caden Clymer, Emma Clymer, Isaac LeMasters, Olivia LeMasters, Ryder Capps, Reed Capps, Andi Capps, Hattie Lynn Greene; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Woodson Greene; two brothers, Warren Compton and Terry Compton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 5, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Boyd is officiating. Burial will follow in Rolling Hills Cemetery in Eddyville.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Lakeland Funeral Home.
