CCHS Principal Updates Board on Students Success and New Programs

At its December meeting, the Caldwell County school board heard from high school Principal Daniel Kukahiko, who shared updates on student success and new programs.

Kukahiko reported on the ribbon cutting for the Jobs for America’s Graduates program, held in November at the Fine Arts Building, noting that more than 50 students are enrolled.

click to download audioHe also mentioned that JAG Specialist Stephanie Chambliss and Counselor J.J. Griggs are collaborating to develop new pathways to student success, with plans still in the preliminary stages.

click to download audioKukahiko said that about 100 high school students will be rewarded with a trip after earning a prestigious Blue rating on the Kentucky Summative Assessment scores released in November, which showed a notable improvement in reading and math and ranked CCHS among the top schools in the state.

click to download audioThe 11th and 12th grade students with four chaperones will travel to Clarksville to go to City Forum or Dave and Busters on January 22 as the reward trip, which was approved by the Board at the meeting.

Kukahiko also followed up on the Leader in Me program, saying that while he previously focused on 9th and 10th graders, juniors are participating as well and working on soft skills.

click to download audioIn addition, Kukahiko said that several guest speakers from the community have visited the school to share their real-world experiences and discuss various career paths with students.

Kukahiko also discussed a recent safety assessment at the high school, noting that on the Monday before Thanksgiving, a team of six visited to observe arrivals, dismissals, and hallway activity, as well as interview all administrators and 127 others in the building.
