A new school resource officer joined the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office this week.
Sheriff Brent White said Deputy Frank Cates began his role as a school resource officer with the agency after previously serving with the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, where he achieved all three certification levels of the statewide SRO training program.
He says adding this school resource officer meets a strategic planning goal for both the Sheriff’s Office and the Lyon County School District, and also complies with the requirements of the School Safety and Resiliency Act.
Sheriff White expressed appreciation for the support and collaboration of Superintendent Russ Tilford, the Lyon County Board of Education, and the Lyon County Fiscal Court, all of whom helped make the additional school resource officer position possible. He also thanked Circuit Judge Jamus Redd for administering the oath of office to Deputy Cates this week.
Sheriff White noted that Deputy Cates will spend this week on administrative tasks and cross-training, and once at his assignment, he will serve all schools with a primary focus on the elementary school.
According to Sheriff White, Deputy Cates and his wife Christal, live in southern Lyon County.
