Firefighters from three departments joined forces Friday afternoon to contain a brush fire in a wooded area of Lyon County.
Officials with the Eddyville Fire Department report they were dispatched to Maple Loop around 2:30 p.m. Friday, where they found a fast-moving fire spreading to a nearby abandoned structure. They said mutual aid was requested from the Kuttawa and Princeton Fire Departments, and Kentucky Utilities responded to disconnect power to the affected building.
According to officials, initial crews were able to bring the structure fire under control quickly, while other personnel used hand tools to cut fire breaks and slow the spread of the fire. They said a side-by-side was deployed to reach areas within the woods, and a brush truck was used where accessible.
Firefighters said the blaze started when a small brush pile got out of control off Perry Springs Road. In total, they reported that about six acres and one abandoned structure were lost to the fire.
Crews reportedly remained on the scene until around 7:30 p.m. Friday to put out hot spots and remove trees that posed safety hazards
