Tuesday afternoon was a big event for the Caldwell County FFA Chapter, with the local club holding its annual speaking contest. The FFA organization has a long-standing tradition of being known for teaching public speaking and giving its students training and the experience of speaking in public and in front of people.
Students who enter the contest choose a topic, research it, and prepare a speech to present in front of a panel of judges. The judges then rate the student on multiple areas, including stage presence, knowledge of the subject, time of speech, and expression while presenting, and then are asked questions about the speech subject by the judges.
Caldwell FFA Chapter President Hannah Teutsch explained that the speaking contest is part of National FFA Week.
