The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office is reaching out to the public to ask for support for Chief Financial Deputy Penny Crawford, who is currently facing a serious health battle. Sheriff Brent White shared that Crawford is experiencing a recurrence of melanoma cancer, which has now spread to her brain.
According to Sheriff White, Crawford was first diagnosed with melanoma last year and underwent emergency surgery and specialized treatment. In December 2025, he says she celebrated completing T-cell therapy and was declared cancer-free. However, less than two months later, the cancer returned and had spread to her brain.
Due to her ongoing health issues, Sheriff White says Crawford is unable to work, and her health insurance coverage is set to end on May 10. He explained that the costs of surgeries, medications, and ongoing medical care are overwhelming and exceed what her family can manage alone.
The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging the community to help offset these costs by making donations through the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Foundation, Inc. Sheriff White says every contribution, big or small, will go toward covering Crawford’s insurance, hospital stays, and other medical expenses as she continues treatment.
Sheriff White encourages those unable to donate to share this message, so others in the community who may be able to help can learn about Crawford’s fight and the support she needs.
