Caldwell Fiscal Court Backs Jail Funding Reform Bill, Accepts Clerk’s Fee Settlement

During a special meeting on Friday, the Caldwell County Fiscal Court approved a clerk’s fee settlement and endorsed new jail funding reforms moving through the Kentucky General Assembly.

Judge-Executive Kota Young said House Bill 557 is an effort to reform jail funding and ensure counties are properly reimbursed.

District 4 Magistrate Jeff Simms noted that some parts of the bill will affect the Caldwell County Jail, while others will not.

District 1 Magistrate Elbert Bennett said the Kentucky Association of Counties deserves thanks for their efforts.

The resolution was unanimously approved.

In other business, magistrates approved an $86,129 fee settlement check for fiscal year 2025 from County Clerk Jennifer Hale.

The Fiscal Court also heard from Director Joey McCaslin, who wants to hire a part-time employee to assist with Emergency Management. WPKY’s News Edge will share more details on this discussion in the coming days.
