The Caldwell County Conservation District held the annual Awards Banquet Monday night in the recreation building at Northside Baptist Church. Around 75 people gathered to recognize several local residents who have shown outstanding leadership in caring for and conserving land in our community. The night began with a meal provided by Mitzi Travis followed by the welcome and introduction of guest by Fred Hart.
The Caldwell County FFA Chapter then began the awards program while presenting an overview of the years activities while a slideshow was presented by Hannah Feagan for everyone to watch. During the FFA presentation the awards winners were introduced with slides of their accomplshments being shown followed by Conservation District Supervisors presenting the awards to the recipients. The Jim Claypool Art Award was presented to elementary school student Hallie Blythe while the Writing Award was given to high school senior Madison French. The Honor Award was presented to local businesswoman Charlotte Ferguson with the Soil Health Hero Award going to retired agriculture teacher Gerry Baker.
Josh Ray presented the Woodmen of the World Conservation Award to Cabott Gilkey who was honored to receive the award.

The event was closed with remarks by District Board Supervisor Chairman David Slaughter. Other Supervisors elected to serve Caldwell County include Daniel Bugg, Fred Hart, Eddie Boone, Catlin Young, Trevor Gilkey and Chase Roberts.
