A Dawson Springs woman faces DUI and animal-related charges after police say her dog bit an officer during a Madisonville traffic stop over the weekend.
Madisonville Police say officers pulled over 66-year-old Debra Cates Saturday afternoon after she was seen driving the wrong way on North Kentucky Avenue. Police say Cates seemed confused and could not provide identification or recall her birth date.
While officers questioned Cates, police say her dog jumped out of the car’s back window, bit an officer’s arm, and then returned to the vehicle. The officer reported that the dog “took a chunk out of his arm,” and required treatment at the Baptist Health Deaconess emergency room.
Police say Cates was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and charged with driving under the influence, careless driving, and harboring a vicious animal. She was booked into the Hopkins County Jail.
