Princeton City Council Approves Sidewalk Bids, Foreclosure Request

The Princeton City Council has approved bids for new sidewalk projects, advanced a property foreclosure request, and confirmed several board appointments.

During unfinished business at Monday night’s meeting, Mayor Brock Thomas reported that the City received several bids for three sidewalk projects, recommending the lowest proposals, all from Bluegrass Excavating. The Council unanimously approved bids from Bluegrass of $10,475 for the North Jefferson Street sidewalk project, $24,125 for the South Jefferson Street project, and $11,388 for work on West Main Street.

Under new business, the City Council advanced a foreclosure request for 217 Center Street after City Clerk Julie Poole explained that the property owes significant back taxes and is currently under liens.

Additionally, Poole said she has been working with Judge-Executive Kota Young, who also serves as the chair for the Princeton-Caldwell County Industrial Development Authority, to identify new build locations in the city. She presented three property acquisitions that have been reclaimed by Mid-South Capital through foreclosure. According to Poole, one of the sites is at 306 West Shephardson Street.

Mayor Brock Thomas recommended that Council members visit and inspect the properties before taking any action.

click to download audioIn other business, the Council approved the reappointments of Carl Copeland, Geneva Malone, and Dwight Martin to the Dotson Park Board, each with terms expiring on May 1, 2030.

The Council also approved Ryals Farless for appointment to the Caldwell County Board of Assessment Appeals, with the term ending June 1, 2029.
